When conducting a review, the SPC evaluates a student’s overall academic performance, professional conduct, and documented concerns to determine appropriate actions. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis and may include specific requirements, timelines, and expectations for future performance. Students will be notified in writing of all SPC decisions and are responsible for complying with the outlined plan.
SPC actions may include, but are not limited to:
- Remediation with Academic Probation: Students may be permitted to remediate a course or rotation as determined by the SPC. Remediation is accompanied by academic probation, which serves as formal notice that continued deficiencies may result in dismissal. Failure to complete or pass remediation within the assigned timeline set by SPC may result in dismissal. While on academic probation, Students must obtain prior approval from the SPC before participating in any extracurricular activities, rotations or assuming leadership roles. Additional violations during this period may result in dismissal. Students who successfully complete remediation will be automatically removed from academic probation.
- Disciplinary Warning / Letter of Reprimand: Issued for minor breaches of conduct, a warning serves as formal notice to correct behavior. It may include required assignments or activities and may be documented in the student’s academic record.
- Requirement for Work to be Redone: Students may be required to repeat or correct specific academic, preclinical, or clinical work to demonstrate competency.
- Disciplinary Probation: Imposed for more serious or repeated professionalism concerns. The disciplinary probation must include specific assignments or activities for the student to complete. Additional violations during this period may result in dismissal. Students on disciplinary probation may be restricted from participating in any extracurricular activities, rotations or assuming leadership roles. The SPC conducts a vote to authorize the removal of Students from disciplinary probation, which is a prerequisite for graduation.
- Dismissal: A Student may be dismissed if they fail to meet academic or professional standards required for progression or graduation. Dismissal may occur at any time, with or without prior probation, particularly in cases of significant academic deficiency, repeated course failure, or serious violations of institutional policies, professionalism standards, or laws.
